Absoloved – Beware of the Tooth!

What does punk rock and a tube of toothpaste moshing in the pit have in common?  Nothing…unless of course you are talking about Christian punk band Absolved.  Yeah, you heard right, a tube of toothpaste.  To find out more about the hi-jinks of Absolved, read on.  In case you have not heard of these guys, you should really check them out.  They recently signed to Thumper Punk Records however, they have a great EP out called “This One Goes To Seven.”  The really unique thing about these guys is that each of the album covers is hand drawn by the band.  What’s refreshing is to have a punk band that is not afraid to take chances and redefine punk rock.  So check these guys out, read below, and if you are ever at a show where they are playing, beware of the tooth!

Q: Looks like there is quite a history with Absolved, two of the members go back quite a ways and quite a few bands,  give us a quick overview of how the band got started, when did you officially decide that Absolved was for real?

JIMMY: In 1999 or 2000, I was in a college class called “History of Christianity” in which Byron, our bassist, was also a student. For odd reasons I was wearing a straightedge t-shirt and Byron came up to me out

Unshackled – Solid Texas Street Punk!

I am a sucker for punk, especially good punk.  Growing up I listened to bands like The Misfits, The Meatmen, The Ramones, Fear, The Descendents, The Circle Jerks, and Black Flag to name just a few of my favorites.  Besides being old and particular about my music, I really enjoy the raw side of all these bands.  For example the sloppy driving guitars of Black Flag, the emotion behind Ian MacKaye singing “guilty of being white,” or Lee Ving and the rest of Fear whipping up the crowd before each song they played live.  So, when a band comes along that draws from influences that I count among some of the bands that hooked me into punk then it is worth noting.  Let me introduce you to Unshackled.  These guys are out of El Paso, Texas and are churning some serious punk out.  For real, check them out, if you are a fan of any of the bands above then you will LOVE Unshackled.  Plus, they bridge the gap, and dare I say, play some Oi! type songs????  Yup.  Read below to learn more about these guys and you can pick up their new album NOW from Thumper Punk Records in conjunction with Caustic Fallout.  Do as I say…..

The Hoax – Christian Punk’s Not Dead!

Every now and again there are still punk bands that are worth their salt, pushing the boundaries of punk music and making it their own.  I have heard a lot of so called punk bands in my time, most are rip-offs of other bands or sing about the same boring old social fare that has been sung about so many times before.  The Hoax is one of these bands that we should all be checking out, getting their music and going to shows to see them play.  I received their first album and was impressed they did a Minor Threat cover, their newest album however “Stumbling Through” is a punk masterpiece.  These guys are really branching out and even incorporating ska and rock-a-billy into their new tunes.  Their music is sure to keep you interested and engaged.  Anyway, read on about these guys, based on some shows they just played, I have a feeling they are turning some heads of some well know Christian punk and hardcore bands.

Q: The Hoax has been together for a while now, how and when did the band get it’s start?

A: We got together in early 2005, I don’t remember exactly when I think it was spring time. We were just a couple of bored kids who had just got instruments, except for Daniel he’d been playing drums for a while. and were inspired by Officer Negative and Headnoise.  The hoax was originally a three piece, we added

HXCChristian.com Comp Album!

ORDER IT NOW! VISIT THUMPER PUNK RECORDS

For those of you who have not heard, HXCChristian.com will have a comp album due out around March 16th.  Special thanks to our pals at Thumper Punk Records who helped with all the heavy lifting on the comp.  “We at HXCChristian.com are really excited for this comp album to be released,” says Josh of HXCChristian.com, “not only did a ton of great bands step forward to contribute to the album, but the proceeds will help HXCChristian.com to continue to have a great presence at music festivals such as Cornerstone.”  While HXCChristian.com keeps it overhead low by a pure DIY ethic, we really like to do it up at Cornerstone.  Last year, we had an official generator tent where we were able to have bands do “meet-and-greets” with all the folks who attend Cornerstone.  Leroy – lead singer for War of Ages, Andy – lead singer of A Plea For Purging, and the guys from Debtor, all came out to answer questions about the band, life on the road, and how God has used them to reach out to people at shows.  We also had a pancake breakfast with Call to Preserve, and a free spaghetti dinner where we must have fed 200 people.  We look forward to doing it bigger and better at Cornerstone this year.  So, by purchasing a download of this comp, or buying the disc will help support our efforts.

Enough about us…..Who is on the comp?  Well, we had 25 bands

The Way – Classic Punk With a Christian Twist

Here is a great band to check out.  With all the classic style of Social D mixed with a classic punk sound.  The Way from California delivers in a big way.  These guys have been pumping some solid punk rock for the past two years.  They were recently picked up by our friends at Thumper Punk Records (who recently released “Hymns of Punk Rock Praise” by False Idle).  So look for big things from The Way.  We hope to see them at Cornerstone 2011.  Be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for their first full length release on Thumper Punk.

Band: The Way
Music Style: Punk
Location: Oxnard & Santa Paula, CA
Facebook Myspace Reverbnation

Q: Where and when did The Way get there start?

A: The WAY started around January of ’09. Tank, Harry, and Ryan were in a band called “R.I.P. The old Me” and had just lost their singer. That’s when I joined the group. A couple of weeks later Manny came to a practice to try out on lead guitar and we never looked back!

Q: What is the significance of the name The Way?

A: I guess you could say that the Bible verse that drives this band most is John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me.” That verse is so powerful in its claim of absolute truth. It also fits with anything in life. It is the solution to any problem we face, any

Punk Rock Hymns From False Idle

It was bound to happen sooner or later, someone taking all the classic hymnals we know and love and turning them into classic punk rock anthems. Well, I would like to introduce you to False Idle.  Some of you may know the brain child behind the project.  Our pal Sef, formerly of the band uniSEF, Christian punk rock staple of Idaho.  Sef’s new project False Idle is releasing an album jam packed with punk rock hymnals on newly formed record label Thumper Punk Records.  I was able to catch up with Sef and David of Thumper Punk to learn more about False Idle, the upcoming release “Hymns of Punk Rock Praise,” and Thumper Punk Records.  The new album will be available the last week of August.  Go, get it, and praise God!  Also, scoot over the the HXCChristian.com radio station, we are playing 3 songs from the upcoming album in the rotation!

Q: Can you give us an introduction to Thumper Punk Records? The label is fairly new to the scene, but from what we understand at HXCChristian.com you have some things in the works. Why did you start Thumper Punk Records? What can we expect from the label in the future?

A: (David) Thumper Punk Records was formed to help artists record, produce and distribute music that reflects a positive, Christ-centered message. I started writing a music blog (www.thumperpunk.com) several years ago to share information about
