Cornerstone 2011 Wrap Up

Seems like Cornerstone 2011 was quick this year.  HXCChristian.com had a tent this year located next to the Legacy Stage.  Micah who runs the Legacy Stage reached out to us and asked if we could team up.  Of course we said yes.  So we were right in the middle of all the action.  This year we had our great DIY Gatorade, gave our free stickers, and other freebies.  We also did our annual spaghetti dinner on Thursday night.  We cooked 36 pounds of spaghetti and made 7 gallons of sauce for our event.  Every year, we are happy to serve hungry mouths at Cornerstone.  We do what we do because 1.  The Lord tells us to serve our fellow Christians, and 2.  We love the Christian hardcore scene, its people, and the bands.  What a better way to express our thanks and support than by feeding as many folks as we can.  And a special thanks to everyone who felt moved to give a donation, no matter how small or large, this helps keep us going, so thank you!

There were so many great bands playing this year, in particular, Blood & Ink records did a B&I family and friends day at the Solace Stage (which spanned two different days).  What was cool about this show is that it included such great B&I bands as Venia, Jawbone, Friends, Dependency, Thin Ice, Ironwill, Thirtyseven, Divide The Sea, and Debtor, but also bands including Cool Cough (side project of the guys

Cornerstone 2010 – HXCChristian.com Represents

Cornerstone has come and gone.  Even though it was almost a whole week, it feels like it went by quickly, and there is never enough time in the day to catch all the shows you would like to go and see.  And, when you running your own “Generator Tent” it is even harder.  I was there to see shows, tape them, talk to the bands, and to meet people and tell them about the site.  Not to mention meet a lot of great people that already know about the site and post on the forum.

Doug (one of the contributors at HXCChristian.com) did a pre-show in Campbellsville, KY the Sunday before Cornerstone.  I drove 9 hours to get to Campbellsville, it was an easy trip.  The show was awesome.  Doug is working with the University to put on show for all the kids and peeps in the area.  Apparently, like most small towns, there isn’t a whole lot to do there, so putting on shows is a great way to blow off steam and stay out of trouble.  The lineup was Restore the Roar (Doug’s band), Debtor (Philly hardcore), Worker (Tennessee hardcore), Dead Icons (Lexington hardcore), and The Showdown (Metal).  I was really impressed with Debtor and Worker (Debtor is a Christian band, Worker is not although their message is positive, and the dudes in the band are really cool).  It was a fun show, and I was glad that HXCChristian.com could be part of it.  After the show, RJ (HXCChristian.com

Quick News and Other Stuff

Hey Folks.  Some big things are going on.  God is doing great things through HXCChristian.com.  We are officially hosting a tent at Cornerstone Festival this year.  We were originally going to do an artists lounge, and setup a small tent to interview bands and meet all the cool people that grace the site and forum with their presence.  However, God has much bigger plans for us.  We are going to have an official tent, the HXCChristian.com tent.  We are looking for bands that want to do acoustic sets, or perhaps spoken word/questions from the fans about life on the road, great stories about shows gone wild, or about how God has used the band to reach out to people that otherwise have never heard the gospel or maybe rejected it.  I know that Call To Preserve, Debtor, and a few other bands said they would be down.  So if you are interested in having your band hang, we would love to meet you, hang with you, and have you guys play an acoustic set or do a group spoken word, or just share stories of life on the road.  Email me at Josh @ HXCChristian DOT com if you are interested.  We don’t have a schedule or anything.

In other news East Coast Christian hardcore band TEN33 unofficially officially announced (to me at least) that they are doing a reunion show in the near future.  If you know anything about these guys, then you know that they put on a great

The Great Commission – SoCal Hardcore

I had the opportunity to catch up with The Great Commission on the Abominable Snow Tour in Raleigh.  Justin was nice enough to agree to an interview.  I dig The Great Commission, I don’t know if I would classify their music as “classic” style hardcore, but it is definitely good stuff (if you like bands like Sleeping Giant, you will dig The Great Commission).  They have a full length album “Every Knee Shall Bow” that was released on Strike First Records, if you don’t have it, go and pick it up, well worth the $9.  I spoke with all the members of the band, and I can tell you that they are all in for Christ, and their message is definitely an uplifting one.  As Justin, the singer of The Great Commission says, “we are a ministry and we are all about heavy worship.”  So enjoy the interview and if you are going to Cornerstone this year, you can catch the band there this year.

Q: When did the The Great Commission form as a band?  No doubt the name came from Jesus’ command for the the disciples to go out and preach the word of Christ, why did you guys choose The Great Commission as the bands name?

A: The Great Commission played our first show in April of 2008. We really wanted God to have complete control of the new project that we were starting so before picking up any

NEWS and NEW RELEASES!

Hey Everyone, it has been a while.  I had some personal trials I was going through, but the Lord provided and things are back on track.

Some news going on out there.  Looks like The Great Commission, a hardcore outfit out of Redlands/Grand Terrace, California has signed with Strike First Records (yes, you read right, Strike First), which in itself if news too.  The Great Commission had a self released demo they put out that was really good, a bit raw, but hey, it’s hardcore, isn’t that what it is all about?  DIY!  The band is heading into to the studio according to their myspace page, and plans to release a full length album in early 2009.  We wish the band the best and hope that God continues to bless them.

Strike First Records is relaunching as a subsidiary of Facedown Records and has three bands signed to the label, Through Solace, The Great Commission, and Hope for the Dying.  We wish the label the best and have lots of suggestions if they want to hook up with great Christian hardcore bands to sign.

A few releases:

Call to Preserve’s second album has been released on Facedown Records.  The title of the album is “From Isolation.”  We are big fans of Call to Preserve here at HXC Christian, and you can read a full interview with the band that was done a few months ago here .  We have not had the opportunity to pick up the album yet, so I cannot
