MY… Where Has The Time Gone?

Written by Doug Hurt – Contributor to HXCChristian.com

I miss the “good ole days”.  That is really the only statement that I can make.  People were going to shows for the pure fact that that is where they truly wanted to be.  They wanted to be a part of something.  And the bands that were a part of this scene were ready to book a show with friends that they had.  The thought of a booking agency was just unheard of.  If you saw someone new, you would walk up and introduce yourself.

Let us fast forward to now.  I am not a fan of these days of so called “hardcore”.  I put hardcore in parenthesis for the fact that the true meaning of why this was all started is no longer alive.  It is no longer shows, we have concert events.  Bands have these big named booking agencies that will not talk to you unless you go through their agent.  And their agents will not talk to you unless you have a cool concert promotion name and are willing to pay a so called “hardcore” band $8000 to come play with a stage plan and a tour rider.  I have always said…  if you want to become rich, go be in a bar band playing creed covers.

The fact is that most of the people that were all about hardcore pride we’re the ones that turned their backs and said “Forget this!”  Now they hang out at the bars listening to talentless

Cornerstone Punk Report with Doogs

Dougle McMysteron our favorite Scot gives HXCChristian a taste of his experience at Cornerstone 2009.

Some Cornerstone 09 Coverage Coming In The Wire

HXC Christian has a bunch of people on the ground at Cornerstone this year.  They are sending bits and pieces about the festival.  Here is some information that I received about some of the bands that performed on Monday that RJ (posts as TenaciousB on the HXCChristian Forum) said we should check out.  Apparently the festival is so good that the team has not even had a chance to get in front of the computer!

I would like to take two paragraphs to explain a few things, so if you are impatient skip ahead. First, I would like to take a moment to describe Cornerstone (C-Stone). C-Stone is a Christian music festival unlike any other. There are no real security guards no bouncers and a chance for nearly anyone to play music. Cornerstone is free flowing and a key to that is the generator stages. There is a regular schedule just like any other festival but anyone who pre-registers a stage can bring their own generator and let bands or themselves play.

Our coverage at cornerstone won’t be press coverage. We will just be sharing our C-Stone experience with those of you who are unable to attend. So enjoy hearing band names you have never heard of and tales of valor on the dusty battlefields of Illinois.

NEW RELEASES AND UPCOMING RELEASES

The Red Baron – A 5 piece hardcore band out of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida has announced that they are now taking preorders for their upcoming EP called “My First Love.” From what we know here at HXCChristian.com, this is the bands first full length album. The album is being released on Blood & Ink Records. The official release date is April 7th. Here is what the band says about the album “We’re really excited about this album. A lot went to each song, spiritually speaking. We’re really proud of how honest and real this album is.” You can go reserve your copy here. They have a pretty cool package deal (which seems to be the new thing) where you can get a Tshirt or tank top as part of your order. If you want to learn more about the band, we did an interview with Phil and Chase, you can read it here. You can go to The Red Baron’s myspace page and listen to one of their new tracks called “Grace is for Falling.” I am sure that we will see these guys on tour soon, they have some dates up in the Southeast on the their myspace page, go and check them out if they are coming to your town.

MUSIC NEWS…WHERE TO START

Hello Kiddies….It has been waaaaaayyyyyyy to long since I have given you an update on things that are going on in the Christian hardcore, punk, ska, and Oi! world. Some cool things are happening and I wanted to share them with (along with some new releases you should check out).

Anyone ever heard of The Crucified? Well…….I emailed the band about a rumor I had heard that they may be getting back together for a reunion tour and I am hoping an album. I emailed the band and got a response a day later, not a yes or no, but (quoting Jeff) “No Comment…..Yet?”

For those of you who don’t know The Crucified, they are a 4 piece Christian thrash metal band that started out as one the best Christian punk bands in my opinion. You can check out the band on The Crucified myspace page, they also have some awesome new shirt designs for sale. Definitely a band worth checking out if they swing through your town on tour.

They guys from Gorilla Warfare (whom have some new tunes up I think that kick butt) are in the process of putting together a compilation CD called “DIY Brotherhood Project.” This is the how they explained it on their myspace page:

“The D.I.Y. Brotherhood project is a group of hard working independent Hardcore,Punk, & Oi bands from all over the world that have gotten together to help each other co-finance a CD compilation. This CD compilation will
