Dougle McMysteron our favorite Scot gives HXCChristian a taste of his experience at Cornerstone 2009. HXC Christian has a bunch of people on the ground at Cornerstone this year. They are sending bits and pieces about the festival. Here is some information that I received about some of the bands that performed on Monday that RJ (posts as TenaciousB on the HXCChristian Forum) said we should check out. Apparently the festival is so good that the team has not even had a chance to get in front of the computer! I would like to take two paragraphs to explain a few things, so if you are impatient skip ahead. First, I would like to take a moment to describe Cornerstone (C-Stone). C-Stone is a Christian music festival unlike any other. There are no real security guards no bouncers and a chance for nearly anyone to play music. Cornerstone is free flowing and a key to that is the generator stages. There is a regular schedule just like any other festival but anyone who pre-registers a stage can bring their own generator and let bands or themselves play.
Our coverage at cornerstone won’t be press coverage. We will just be sharing our C-Stone experience with those of you who are unable to attend. So enjoy hearing band names you have never heard of and tales of valor on the dusty battlefields of Illinois. Some Cornerstone 09 Coverage Coming In The Wire a review of Jason Berggren’s book “10 Things I Hate About Christianity.” Jason is the former lead singer of Christian hardcore band Strongarm. Jason is a family man that even started his own church. He takes us on a journey of the things that he struggles with in his faith to Jesus Christ. Hello Kiddies….It has been waaaaaayyyyyyy to long since I have given you an update on things that are going on in the Christian hardcore, punk, ska, and Oi! world. Some cool things are happening and I wanted to share them with (along with some new releases you should check out). Anyone ever heard of The Crucified? Well…….I emailed the band about a rumor I had heard that they may be getting back together for a reunion tour and I am hoping an album. I emailed the band and got a response a day later, not a yes or no, but (quoting Jeff) “No Comment…..Yet?” For those of you who don’t know The Crucified, they are a 4 piece Christian thrash metal band that started out as one the best Christian punk bands in my opinion. You can check out the band on The Crucified myspace page, they also have some awesome new shirt designs for sale. Definitely a band worth checking out if they swing through your town on tour. They guys from Gorilla Warfare (whom have some new tunes up I think that kick butt) are in the process of putting together a compilation CD called “DIY Brotherhood Project.” This is the how they explained it on their myspace page: “The D.I.Y. Brotherhood project is a group of hard working independent Hardcore,Punk, & Oi bands from all over the world that have gotten together to help each other co-finance a CD compilation. This CD compilation will Continue reading MUSIC NEWS…WHERE TO START Hey Everyone, it has been a while. I had some personal trials I was going through, but the Lord provided and things are back on track.
Some news going on out there. Looks like The Great Commission, a hardcore outfit out of Redlands/Grand Terrace, California has signed with Strike First Records (yes, you read right, Strike First), which in itself if news too. The Great Commission had a self released demo they put out that was really good, a bit raw, but hey, it’s hardcore, isn’t that what it is all about? DIY! The band is heading into to the studio according to their myspace page, and plans to release a full length album in early 2009. We wish the band the best and hope that God continues to bless them. Strike First Records is relaunching as a subsidiary of Facedown Records and has three bands signed to the label, Through Solace, The Great Commission, and Hope for the Dying. We wish the label the best and have lots of suggestions if they want to hook up with great Christian hardcore bands to sign. A few releases: Call to Preserve’s second album has been released on Facedown Records. The title of the album is “From Isolation.” We are big fans of Call to Preserve here at HXC Christian, and you can read a full interview with the band that was done a few months ago here . We have not had the opportunity to pick up the album yet, so I cannot Continue reading NEWS and NEW RELEASES! |
