Walking In Victory with Call To Glory

You ever just listen to a band and the first time you hear them you think, these guys are just good. And you think, I could hang out with these guys cause they seem really cool and easy to get along with? Call To Glory is one of those bands. These guys are just doing great things with the word of God, and they make some great music. When I listen to these guys, I hear influences from the Misfits, Social Distortion, maybe some Screeching Weasel, and classic punk roots. As the guys in the band said it best “greasy rock-n-roll for Jesus.” Check these guys out live, buy their albums and pray they go on tour to spread the word.

Q: When did Call To Glory form as a band, how did the band form?

A: We formed the band 5 years ago for the youth group in our church. (The Sanctuary)

Q: What does everyone in the band do when they are not playing?

A: Chris Jones (lead vox, guitar) is married with 3 kids, likes to surf and skate. Dave Shutt (drums) is married, likes to hang out and take pictures of people surfing and skating. Landon Jackson (lead guitar) is single, likes to play guitar all the time. Paul Bush (bass) our new bass player, is married, likes to ride his motorcycle.

Q: Could you describe the sound of the band? What kinds of music or bands influence the sound of Call To Glory?call-to-glory-band

A: Our sound is punk & roll or greasy rock & roll. Influences are Social Distortion, Supersuckers, Face To Face, Dropkick Murphy’s, Misfits, etc.

Q: You guys recently played a show in the Cayman Islands, sweet gig, tell us about that.

A: The Cayman Islands was awesome !!! We worked our tails off though. We did 3 school assemblies everyday and two huge shows at The Black Pearl Skate Park. Many kids got saved and the message that it’s about relationship not religion was preached. Chris even got to give his testimony at the prison to the inmates one night!!!

Q: What is the purpose of Call To Glory?

A: The purpose for Call To Glory is to reach the lost and provide another avenue to worship God for the already saved. We just want to spread the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ through greasy rock & roll.

Q: The band makes no bones about being Christian, how is that accepted in the punk scene?

A: Most bands are afraid to play with us unless they are Christian. Whatever, that’s cool. God will put us where he needs us. We aren’t interested in watering down our lyrics. We have all played rock & roll for ourselves already and are not interested in compromise. We love Jesus, He’s the reason we are even doing this at all. Loud and Proud !!!

Q: Where does the band draw it’s influence from in the bible?

A: Intimacy with God. Study time, prayer time, alone time with the Father.

Q: Who would win in a fight, Chuck Norris, a ninja, or Jesus Christ? (kind of a goof question, but I thought you could have some fun with this one)

A: Well, Chuck Norris is gnarly but I think Jesus would just walk up to him and the ninja and have them both broken, crying on their knees, feeling totally convicted because of His love for them. Jesus would give them the snap-kick of love.

Q: Do “church going” Christians ever look at you guys and say “no way they are Christian, look at those guys, and their music is so loud?”

A: Oh yeah, we mess up religious folk real good. They look at us and say “no way are these guys even saved” but when they here what comes out of our mouths, they are like “whoah” you guys are the real deal. PRAISE GOD !!! He would use knuckleheads like us. Amen!!!

call-to-glory-liveQ: Do people ever come up to you guys after shows and talk about Jesus, ever have anyone get saved at a show?

A: People come up to us all the time and want to talk about Jesus at our shows. We love it !!! We pray for a lot of people too. We do alter calls at almost every show. Usually people get saved or rededicate their lives.

Q: Tell us some of the bands Call To Glory has played with, who is most memorable and why?

A: The most memorable one was when we opened up for a band called Less Than Jake in Florida. They were all gettin’ high in the green room, drinking beer. We just hung out and ministered to em’. Then when we went on there were thousands of kids there to see them. We blew people’s minds. There were kids flipping us off and there were kids digging it. IT WAS AWESOME !!!!

Q: What was the craziest show Call To Glory has ever played?

A: That was it. (see above)

Q: Any plans for a nationwide tour anytime soon?

A: We would love to tour but we are waiting on God to provide the funds to pull it off. We all have families ya know. When we tour we usually hop on an airplane, stay gone a week, fly home. That’s just how its been working.

Q: How does someone get a hold of the Call To Glory CDs?

A: All our stuff is on itunes or cdbaby.com

Q: What does the future hold for the band? What are plans for the band?

A: We are writing the next record right now and we are PSYCHED !!! It should be out by next summer.

Q: What message would you give the whole punk/hardcore scene right now?

A: Heaven and hell are real places, where would you go if you died right now ? Jesus Christ died for you and me, God raised Him from the dead and He’s alive today. He can give you a brand new life and heart like He did us. You are going to spend eternity somewhere, don’t wait, don’t hesitate, ask Him to come into your heart right now.

Q: Feel free to give any shout-outs, links, name dropping, or anything else you would like to add! Thanks for the interview guys!

A: We just want to say “What’s Up !!!” to our homies Jay ” Alabamy ” Haizlip, Christian Hosoi, and Brian Sumner. Our brothers in Christ who are doing a reality t.v. show on Inspirational Network called ” The Uprising” We are in a couple of episodes as well. WATCH IT !!!! YAHOOOOO
